The key verbs for today are… Oh, no… We forgot what they were…
Just kidding. Here we go:
A. Forgetting:
- Slip one’s mind 🤷♂️ – To be forgotten.
- I was supposed to call Mike yesterday, but it completely slipped my mind.
- Blank out 🌫️ – To suddenly be unable to remember something.
- I knew the answer a moment ago, but I blanked out as soon as the quiz started.
- Fade away 🌅 – To slowly disappear from memory.
- As the years go by, the details of that day have started to fade away.
B. Remembering:
- Jog one’s memory 🏃♀️ – To cause someone to remember something.
- Seeing her old school photo jogged her memory about her childhood friends.
- Call to mind 📞 – To remember; to bring something back into one’s mind.
- That song calls to mind the summer we spent together.
- Brush up on 📚 – To improve one’s knowledge of something already learned but partly forgotten.
- I need to brush up on my French before the trip to Paris.
Round 1: YOU
- How good are you at remembering things? What things are easy to remember?
- What kinds of things do you often forget? Have you forgotten anything this week?
- What is the earliest memory of your life that you can think of?
- Are there any songs that remind you of a certain event or time in your life?
Phrasal Verbs to Use:
- Soak up 🧽 – To absorb or take in information.
- It’s amazing how children can soak up information so quickly.
- Piece together 🧩 – To put parts of a story, information, or memory in order to understand it as a whole.
- After the event, I had to piece together what happened from various people’s memories.
- Drum up 🥁 – To recall or bring something to the surface from memory.
- I had to really drum up details from my childhood for the biography.
Round 3: Memories
- What is one of the happiest memories in your life? Who were you with at the time?
- Do you take many photographs for memories? How often do you look at them?
- What do you think it would be like if you could only remember the past 7 days?
- What do you hope to be remembered for in your life? Who will remember you?
3 Verbs You Could Use:
- Dwell on 🤔 – To think or talk a lot about something, especially something it would be better to forget.
- I try not to dwell on the unpleasant memories of my school days.
- Block out 🚫 – To deliberately try to forget something that is disturbing or upsetting.
- Sometimes, I just block out the bad times we had.
- Cherish 💖 – To remember or hold (an idea, belief, or memory) dearly.
- I cherish the memories of summers spent at my grandmother’s house.
