  1. The fairer sex – An old-fashioned and somewhat poetic term used to refer to women.
    • Example: “Throughout history, the fairer sex has often been underestimated, but they have consistently proven their strength and resilience.”
  2. A woman’s touch – The supposed ability of a woman to make an environment more comfortable or attractive.
    • Example: “After she redecorated the room, you could really see a woman’s touch in the details.”
  3. Wear the pants in the family – To be the person in a relationship who makes the decisions; often used to describe a woman who has control in her household.
    • Example: “In their relationship, it’s clear that she wears the pants in the family.”
  4. Behind every great man is a great woman – Suggesting that a man’s success is often due to the support and contribution of the woman in his life.
    • Example: “He credits his success to his wife, acknowledging that behind every great man is a great woman.”

Round 1: Inspirational Women’s Showcase

You are invited to briefly talk about a woman who inspires you, whether a historical figure, a personal role model, or a public personality.

Key Vocabulary for You:

  • Empower: Give someone the authority or power to do something.
  • Trailblazer: A person who makes a new track or path for others to follow.
  • Advocate: A person who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause.
  • Resilience: The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.
  • Pioneering: Involving new ideas or methods.
  • Influence: To have an effect on the character or behaviour of someone.
  • Achievement: A thing done successfully with effort or skill.
  • Inspire: Fill someone with the urge to do or feel something.
  • Legacy: Something handed down by a predecessor.
  • Visionary: Thinking about the future with imagination or wisdom.

Round 2: Her-story Timeline

Create a collaborative timeline where each participant adds an event, invention, or landmark achievement by women throughout history. This can be a mix of well-known and lesser-known contributions. We made a list of contribution for you to decide whether to include in your timeline or not.

Here are some examples you could use:

  1. Marie Curie’s Nobel Prizes – “Marie Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only person to win in two different sciences, for her work in physics and chemistry.”
  2. Rosa Parks’ Role in the Civil Rights Movement – “Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her bus seat in 1955 sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a pivotal event in the Civil Rights Movement.”
  3. Amelia Earhart’s Transatlantic Flight – “Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932, inspiring countless women to pursue careers in aviation.”
  4. Ada Lovelace’s Work in Computing – “Ada Lovelace is considered the world’s first computer programmer for her work on Charles Babbage’s early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine.”

Round 3: Group Discussion: ‘Breaking the Glass Ceiling’

We invite you to facilitate a discussion on the challenges women face in various fields. Or maybe you believe women should not receive any ‘special attention’ that could be misleadingly understood as positive bias?

If you have time, brainstorm ways to support and uplift women in our communities and workplaces. What could be done in your company? What can you do? If you think this is not what we should do and you disagree, explain why and give other participants your reasons. It’s a debate and we should all be able to express what we think.
